At 9:00 a.m. on May 22, 2026, Zhengzhou Commodity Exchange (ZCE) officially opened trading of polyester industry chain futures and options to overseas traders. COFCO Futures, as a representative of industrial futures companies, was invited to attend ZCE’s launch event for the internationalization of the polyester industry chain. The company participated in a closed-door seminar, engaging in in-depth discussions with the exchange officials, industry experts, and polyester industrial clients and jointly witnessing this important milestone in the internationalization of China’s chemical futures market. The products opened this time include futures and options on paraxylene (PX), bottle-grade PET resin (PR), and polyester staple fiber (PF), as well as options on purified terephthalic acid (TA). Together with PTA futures, which were opened to overseas traders in 2018, these products will form the world’s first fully open polyester futures complex.

China has a solid foundation in the polyester industry, with the world’s largest production capacity for PX, PTA, bottle-grade PET resin, and polyester staple fiber. It is also the world’s largest producer, consumer, and exporter of polyester staple fiber and bottle-grade PET resin. In 2025, China’s exports of polyester staple fiber and bottle-grade PET resin accounted for 40% and 50% of global trade volumes, respectively. Besides, China remains the world’s largest importer of PX, with imports meeting around 20% of its PX demand. Both its industrial scale and trading activity are world-leading. The full opening of the entire industry chain has established a closed-loop price transmission system of “PX → PTA → Bottle-Grade PET Resin/Polyester Staple Fiber (downstream polyester products)”, making China's polyester prices a core global market benchmark, opening up the linkage channel between domestic and international polyester markets, and helping transform "China Price" into "World Price".
